Help me pick a book title…Mother’s day ideas

Help Me Name Pineapple #5!

I’m about half way done Pineapple Port Mystery #5, which I’ve been calling Pineapple Beach House in my head, but I’m not sure that’s the best name. This story revolves around a handful of the characters vacationing at a beach house during a huge storm that strands them. (They’re in Corolla, NC, which can only be accessed by beach and the tide rises too high).

I know there is a big sub-genre attraction to “Snowbound in a Cabin” type books, which this fits, so it occurred to me I should call it Pineapple Stormbound or something along those lines.

So once again I ask you for your input! Which do you prefer?

Pineapple Beach House – Maybe attracts people this summer?
Pineapple Stormbound – They are stuck, and it’s November…

Let me know in the comments below!

PS: I’ll be having a contest for naming something in Pineapple #5 soon!

Aw, there’s mom and dad. Aren’t they adorable? And cocktailing without ME! Grrr!

Mother’s Day Help?

I’d also love some ideas on what to get my mom for mother’s day. I’ve done the photo collages and the giant tins of Hershey kisses… I’m running out of ideas! Anyone get/give something unique in the past?

I can tell you the authors of “Mother’s Day Idea” articles online have clearly never met my mom or me. Some of their suggestions:

A $300 set of sheets. Sure, sounds awesome if I just won the lottery.

Flowers/Chocolate: How unique. Really needed an article for that idea. Plus the article I read suggested Godiva and mom HATES Godiva. She’s a Hershey’s gal.

A Card: Wow. I thought the flower/chocolate people were lazy.

Cookware: If I bought my mother cookware she’d bash me in the head with it. Why don’t I get her a mop while I’m at it?

Speakers: Come on. Mom’s already heard all the music she needs to hear. Anyway, Dad would steal them an hour later. That’s the sort of gift he’d get her just to have for himself.

Polaroid Camera: Huh? What, is she, ten years old? That’s what we got our niece last Christmas.

A Fondue Set: In case she’s having serious 70s nostalgia issues? I mean, she loves chocolate but let someone else make the stuff!

Let me know if you have any great ideas!!

    Pineapple Beach House!

Also, I got my Mom a throw that has family pictures all over it. She loved it. If interested, I’ll send you a link.

I think that Pineapple Stormbound is more appropriate, the other is too summery. As for Mother’s Day, How about a set of business/calling cards with her contact information and a pretty design on them ?

        Pineapple Stormbound sounds more intriguing!!

My mom never treats herself, so I usually do a home made gift basket with her favorite (expensive) cheese, gourmet crackers, coffee and a beautiful new coffee cup. I line the basket with a new kitchen towel. And maybe throw in a few of her favorite chocolates.

well for the book I like Pineapple Beach house. For mothers day make her beautiful colored roses (if she is not allergic). There are do it yourself videos that show you how to do this as a personal touch. I subscribe to DIY they have amazing ideas and fun, easy and also affordable projects. You should check them out because as a mother and a daughter it is all in knowing your mom that is the secret to a great gift. My daughter gets me different colored pebbled stones because i love to put them in a bowl and just dig my hands gently thru to relieve stress or to think so this might also be something your mom could enjoy. Its not the cost simply the thought and love that makes gifts special. Ill take a cleaned stone form a rock pile over a dozen roses any day. Ill try to send you a link. Good luck and have a great day.

      Pineapple Beachhouse sounds good.

For Mother’s Day how about seeds for her garden or small herb plants she can plant ne use.

If she is not into gardening how about a bottle of something that she likes, wine vodka, margherita ‘s that you can enjoy together remembering past Mother’s Day and the crazy things you brought for her.

I vote for Stormbound Pineapple. As for a Mother’s Day idea, what about a story just for her? It’s what you do and that is what will count. Something really special just for her.

Mother’s Day gifts and Mom’s birthday always stink. As children we use to run across the street to the local florist (after borrowing a quarter from mom) and purchased her a 25 cent pansy. By the end of the day she had many! We have always purchased a hanging planter of pansies then go from there. We choose a few of her favorite stores and purchase a few smaller gift certificates for them. She doesn’t get 1 gift cert. she would get 5 maybe 6. In one package there would at the bottom maybe her favorite kind of candy or special cookies. Stuff the box up with tissue paper and off and on throw in one of the gift cards. We have taken her to brunch and gone for a ride sight seeing, stopped at nurseries, farmer markets, veggie stands.. what ever and purchase odd and ends she thinks sounds good or things she wants to add to the lawn. This year she is getting brunch and an auto starter put into her car. She hates getting into a cold car. We have purchased the local payer for a year, a payment or two on her cable bill. Mom always says she doesn’t need or want anything so we go around her and try to do something nice. Good luck on your dilemma.

For your new story, I really like Pineapple Stormbound or even Stormy Pineapple Beach House

For your mom, maybe try something from Wine Country Gift Baskets… they have tons of choices and sure to have at least one your mom will love – and they aren’t that expensive (unless you let them be).

    My two cents. 🙂

Pineapple snowbound title for the book, maybe a title for a new book will be pineapple upside down murder?
One year I gave my mother a stained glass Suncatcher of an Angel with a harp that I made. Maybe you can get her something like that who is that symbolizes something that she loves Lake angels, flowers, or unicorns.

Pineapple Beach House would be my choice (If Pineapple Perfect Storm is off the table.)
And for Mom’s day, my son sends me roses every year, no matter where he is stationed. And my Daughter-In-Love sends me photo things with shots that I haven’t seen before. She lets the grands go to shutterfly and make me picture stuff. It is awesome!

I love the Pineapple Beach House title! My mom loves when I get her a bulk supply of something she loves that is a little more expensive….such as this luxe organic shampoo and conditioner she likes, or really high quality maple syrup, the kind aged in bourbon barrels, or her organic truffle salt. Otherwise she loves the pedicure and massage gift cards.

Your Mum probably cares more about spending time with you than stuff. My Mum hates us spending money on her, but loves if I win her something. So she will be receiving a “Mummy” candle that I won her. The other option is check out the freecyling internet sites in your are for anything you can collect and customise for her. Or a last resort is a great photo of you that she can put up on the wall and show off to her friends – don’t need to win the lottery, but might have to invest some time for these ideas. Good luck.
Pineapple Beach Shack would be my suggestion.

I Say Beach House it fits with the light hearted cozy mystery titles of your other books
or Pineapple Beach Storm cause that sorta says it all LOL
*Gift for Mom either a day away for you two (If possible) to the spa and lunch something like that Or whatever she likes to do even if you don’t LOL Movie and Dinner Amusement Park to ride the BIG Coasters LOL
    * Or Find a pic of you and her holding you when you were a baby (For one side of the frame) and one of you and her dancing at your wedding or You, Her and any of your babies (If you have kids) or just a nice pic of you two now or not too long ago (for the other side of the frame) and if you can find a 3 pic frame then you write a little poem (If you can’t write poems and only books go cheat and just take a bunch of parts of other poems and some of your own words and make one up) about how She will always be your mom and you will always need her even though you are grown up and/or a Mom yourself
If you do that Pic/poem thing Have a Camera/Camcorder ready 🙂
I did it to my Mom (My poem was about how she was my Mother/Father though and that even though I was a Grown Up and had just gotten married I’d always be her baby)
I also got her an Orange Hunting Cap that year for her to wear when walking her dogs in the woods and I have a pic of her Bawling her eyes out in her Orange Cap and I LOVE it especially since she is now gone

Of the two I’d pick pineapple stormbound or how about ” Any Pineappple in a Storm”.

I know most people think gift cards are impersonal but the right one can be fun. If your mom likes to make things or take classes a Craftsy gift card might work. You could both take a class and do the same project together. Or if she likes clothes but hates to shop A Stichfix gift card. You could help her with her clothes profile and it’s a surprise in a box!

    Pineapple Beach House

Give Mom a day. In other words, spend a day with her doing whatever she wants to do. Your treat of course – you could offer her some choices, depending on what your Mom likes – working with her in the garden, a SPA day, going to the movies, trying out a new restaurant, going to the beach (without the storm). My Mom is in a nursing home, so for her birthday this week, I packed up the good china, cooked her favorite meal and packed it in coolers. We surprised her at the nursing home. I set the table in their conference room and we had a nice quiet dinner together.

My mom is easy to buy for. I got her a kindle one Christmas and now an Amazon gift card makes every holiday a breeze. But back before the kindle brainstorm, it was harder and I had to consider her likes and hobbies. She loves birds, so a hummingbird feeder was a natural, and a crystal hummingbird and a clock that made bird sounds were gifts at different times. Basically, I’m saying that avoiding generic things like chocolate and flowers and getting something more personal to your mom is the best idea. For my mom, it was reading and birds. You know your own mom best, and if you think in that way, you will come up with something fabulous.

Mother’s Day-Mani/Pedi is a gift I enjoy receiving. If you’re thinking decadent, a gift certificate to a restaurant with glorious desserts would be a nice treat especially if you go with her.

Both titles are good but I think Pineapple Stormbound fits better as it lets you in on a bit of the plot; Pineapple Beach House could mean anything.

My mother’s favorite tv show is ending so I’ve been getting her the seasons so she can watch it again whenever she chooses. I believe the show was important to her because it was something she and my brother shared; we lost him to cancer a couple of years ago.

I like Pineapple Beach House. I agree with what others have said. The best gift you could probably give your mother is spending time with her. Do something that you know she’d enjoy (but won’t do for one reason or another – won’t spend the money, waste of time, etc – and surprise her by arranging for her to do it while with you.
You only have one mother and when they’re gone you don’t want to regret never having spent enough time with her. Good luck.

BOOKS! I always got mine books when she was alive. She said she always got a vacation at the same time so it was like 2 gifts in one. I knew her preference in books but always looked for an author she hadn’t read yet and that I thought she might like.

What to get Mom for Mother’s Day? — I’m going simple this year with gift cards. We also usually go out for a dinner between Mother’s Day and the 18th which is her birthday. So, … Nail kit set. Buy a nice toiletry bag or such, and fill it with nail accessories. (Nail files, clippers, buffers, polish, polish remover, etc..) My sister has gotten my mom gift certificates to nail salons. Another suggestion is a massage (back, foot). Mom likes to read so we get her new books by her favorite authors. Buy her a hair cut or style. It may sound strange, but with a tight budget my parents have cut down on meat. Groceries are not a bad idea. How about a nice roast?

I will be the odd ball out but I like the title Pineapple Stormbound, but here’s another one for you ….Pineapple No Access. It is catchy and sticks to the limited access theme you have going in the book.
As for Mother’s Day Gifts…try and have a photo collage blanket made. They can be made at walmart online or in the store. It is easy, cute and personable.

For Mothers Day I am finding the older I get and the older my mom gets it is no longer about gifts. It is the time spent with one another. . If you live close just sitting down and talking and maybe bring lunch. If she lives far away a nice long telephone conversation is great. Mothers Day isn’t always about giving. Sometimes it is just the time you take to sit down and listen. I don’t think that there are to many moms that don’t like to sit down and just talk about years past. I am amazed at the things that I thought I knew about my mother and her family but I am now learning that there are so many interesting things that I did not know.

I like Pineapple Storm but Stormbound is also good. For Mother’s Day – would you mom like a fitness tracker? Or perhaps a wearable device that helps you relax, especially when you’re feeling stressful (Spire). Another idea would be to gather some of her favorite t-shirts that she doesn’t wear anymore (or that she’s just collected to remind her of….) and have those made into a wall hanging or quilt. You could include some from other family members. Of course this would probably be for next year since it does take some planning. LOL

Pineapple Stormbound, that is more descriptive of the story.
As for gifts, I find that food always and sometimes plants or plant related. It seems she may like alcohol. I read 3 great romance books that the family business was making bourbon, they had a gift shop and I cannot stop thinking about all the goodies they sold in the shop: bourbon syrup for ice cream, bourbon-pumkin pie, cookies, truffles with bourbon. I am still drooling thinking about all those goodies. Cannot go wrong with food and alcohol.

As a mum I like nothing better than the whole family getting together and going on an outing somewhere that we have not been since my children were little so that we an see the grandchildren’s reaction and relive old memories. At my age I do not need dishes, plants or knick knacks just family closeness.
I think Pineapple Stormbound is the better one but then again it is does not hold mystery so why not something like “The Storm clouds of Pineapple Vacation”

Not sure if I have any original suggestions for the title but some of the others sound really good! For the mother’s day gift set up a “pamper her” day. Spa like treatments and then a home cooked meal (with clean up afterwards done too). Or a meal out kinda like a date night for her and her special someone.

Ok, as for Mother’s day. If not wine- then how about something like Tea Forte? They make the best tea I have ever had. And it can be as small or as expensive as you wish. I got a $50.00 box for Christmas one year. I was in heaven all year!.. What else? Do they like to eat out? A Gift card for their fav restaurant? OR your fave? Or maybe passes for a few movies for them? Mom’s day gift from like one of those pamper me places? The ones with the fave massages? That’s the last idea from me.. 🙂

Since you say they’re stranded, I like “Pineapple Stranded.” Then it wouldn’t make a difference as to what time of year.

Since you’re a writer, I think your mom would be really touched if you wrote a long poem about all the reasons you hold her so dear, including memories you have of her or the two of you together that you hold dear, including all the fun, silly and frantic, as well as the times she had to put you in your place. You could get it professionally printed and framed because I know she would want all to see. That wouldn’t be too expensive, but you’d need to stop everything to get it done, which I think would make it even more special to her because she would know that you’d had to do that. I thought a day at the spa together would be a good idea, too, but that would cost more than those $300 sheets. If she does like a good massage by a sexy man, you could book one with a specific masseur and give her a certificate with the poem. You could get manicures together and treat her to a special lunch, or you, yourself, could cook her favorite meal and take her to a special spot of nature to surprise her. Get her theatre tickets or take her if she enjoys plays. It’s not easy to make suggestions when you know nothing about her personality or her likes and dislikes. All I can is just find a way to tell or show her just how special she really is to you. Sometimes it’s the simple things that mean the most.

Don’t take any day for granted that you’ll still have her the next day. I lost my mom nearly 14 years ago at the young age of 76. I loved her unequivocally. (My dad, a complete narcissist, died at the age of 90.) Who would I rather have had the time with?? Just show her and give her all the love you can. That means more than anything money can buy.

Right now I can’t remember a single Mother’s Day gift I gave my Mom. I lost her two & a half years ago and all I wish is that I had another day with her, any day! She was the most amazing woman I’ve ever known & I am so very blessed to have had her as my Mom!!! Her birthday would have been about a week after Mother’s Day….not my favorite time of the year.

Of the 2 titles, I prefer Stormbound, although Pineapple Hurricane could be cool. Heck, New Orleans has the famous Hurricane at Pat O’Brien’s, so why not a newctwist on a classic?

As for the gift, if she likes good candles (an assumption on my part, of course), how about a diffuser and a starter set of essential oils?

You can make her a blanket with cute photos, or I made my mon a phone case (that’s surprisingly durable and hardy!) a couple years ago with all my nephews (her grandsons) and my fur babies (her grand-fur-babies?). Anyways, that way at least you can be creative and give her something that she will cherish without being tacky.
And if she isn’t the sentimental type, there is always the martini/margarita/booze picnic basket where you basically put all the fixins’ you need to make some great drinks together in a basket and boom! done! party time with mama!!!

    And I like Pineapple Beached
    or Pineapple Tropical Storm
    or Storm on Pineapple Beach

Hi, Amy! I really like how you write this blog, I cannot wait to read your new book whatever the title is going to be. Anyway, about the book title. As a reader myself, I like “Pineapple Beach House”. Why? Because the summer is around the corner and yes I agree with your comment of attracting people this summer. I’ll pick up your book for summer reading, why not. But either way, since I know you are the author of the book so I’ll pick even the title is “Pineapple Stormbound”!

About your mother’s day gift idea or inspiration, I don’t know your mom well so it’s hard to answer. I usually send ( I live far from her )my mom carnations along with some sweets, every year is different color so a little bit of surprise. But I send unique gifts for her birthday & christmas. I hope it help you a bit.

    Hurricane House Guests?

A gift that my mom loved was a scrap album my sister gave her of the family across the years. I used to bring a flat of plants over and plant her annual flower bed for her. I’ve told my kids that story, but they haven’t gotten the hint.
At 93, what my mom enjoys most is just time with her kids, grand kids and great grand kids!

Hi Amy! I would call your book, “Pineapple Stormbound Retreat, ” but I have to choose one of the titles you suggested. Therefore, I will have to say, “Pineapple Stormbound.” Thank you! Have a spectacular day!

    What about “The Pineapple Express”?
Since they are stuck in a storm.

How about The Pineapple Express? We on the west coast had a dreadful storm, worst in years and that is what they called it.. the Pineapple Express..Seems like it would fit nicely.
as for mum… I am getting mine a lilac bush, she loves them and hasn’t one in her garden. I have also gotten, all the typical things, but she loves those things we made over anything expensive.

Stormbound is the one I like. How about giving your Mom a spa day for the 2 of you to enjoy together.

I prefer Pineapple Beach House (or Pineapple Stranded or In the Eye of the Pineapple -are they called “eyes” where the prickly parts are? – like eye of the storm.
Lots of great ideas already for gifts – it’s great you are thinking of her, that’s what’s important.

I would name it “Stranded in Pineapple Beach” This title covers both the place and the situation.

Pineapple Beached is my choice for the book title. A suggestion for your Mother’s day gift is one my son and daughter-in-law gave to me … a gift certificate to a Mystery Dinner Theater. I haven’t used it yet, but I am looking forward to driving into Atlanta and having a jolly good time.

Okay… MY TURN and input…. as for the name of book 5, I like STORMED IN….. I cannot wait to read it, no matter what the title though, lol! As for mothers day gifts, this is what *I* am doing for my mom this year. She is in late stages of Alzheimer but that is no reason for ME to forget or to slack, 🙂
First of all, I went to the dollar store in my area. They have an AMAZING assortment of candles, all shapes, sizes and scents, and I got 10, different sizes and scents, one was even in the shape of a cute little wedding cake! Then, I went through the store for ideas, and found a cute little turbo-twisty towel for her head, and a great loofah, a pair of cute little manicure toe separators, 3 bottles of nail polish, 5 bottles of her favorite knock off perfume and then headed to Walmart, I got a cute basket to hold all the things then headed to the coffee isle and got three boxes of instant Starbucks coffee, 3 boxes of microwavable popcorn including, YUMMMMMM, caramel, which I was unaware of until today, and then a couple boxes of her favorite candy, the little theater sized boxes, at a dollar each, and then found a shirt with a cute saying on it, a nightgown with Betty Boop and another with Garfield, both her favorites, a coffee mug with Texas on the side, as that is where I live and she is in Oklahoma, a really luxurious feeling set of slippers, a beautiful Mothers day card and I wrote inside the mushy stuff as well as a little side note saying that we were going to have a girls might IN, and I owed her a maini/pedi, facial and wanted to have popcorn and coffee while we re-watched some of her favorite movies, one of which ironically is The Notebook, it puts us both in tears every time, so I got a copy of that and out it in the basket for her as well. It cost me right at 85 bucks or so, but the thought I put into it, all Moms favorite things that mean something to BOTH of us, will make her cry, therefore make me cry. It is not the money it is the love and the thought. I hope my idea isnt corny or stupid to all of you, lol
