Name the Nursing Home

Name an Old Folk’s Home!

It’s that time again, when I ask YOU to name something or someone in my upcoming novel!

I just realized I don’t have a name for a private residence nursing facility in North Carolina’s Outer Banks, where most of the action takes place in Pineapple Port #5, Pineapple Beach House. (If that is the title, I still haven’t decided. You all split right down the middle with “Beach House” and “Storm” names!)

This one could be really fun – I’ve heard a lot of great nursing home names, both real and funny. One of my favorite retirement names —  that I actually SAW with my own eyes — was a 55+ community called “Terra Siesta.” Literally translated, that could mean “Dirt Nap!”

Anyhoo, I’m on chapter 20 and usually have about 30, so I’m getting close to being done.

I like the alliteration like the person who said Pineapple People’s Palace, but I also like Pineapple People’s Paradise or Actively Aging Adult Community (nursing home and retirement center). Or Spirited Senior Community (Nursing and Retirement Center)

I was going to rack my brain for a name, but after reading Don Vitz’s
“The Blue Haired Lagoon”, and cracking up. I’m not so sure I could come up with a better name ☺
Another of his I liked as well “Anteroom to the Pearly Gates”.
    Very peaceful and reassuring.
Anyway, I’ll mull over names as I feed my dogs and do other chores, but I still doubt I can come up with anything better than his.

Most “Seniors”/Nursing Homes in my travels have been call “Manor” or “Estate”. My guess it that the owners want to assure the families that this Nursing Home is “upper crust’ / La-Dee-Ah / prestigious enough to impress their friends. My mom was living in “Highland Estates” – an active Senior’s residence”. She had her own suite, but meals were served in a common dining area (if you missed a meal, with out letting the staff know you would absent, then nurses started looking for you to make sure everything was OK.
    My suggestions would be:
    – Pineapple Port Manor or Pineapple Port Estate, or
    – Outer Banks Manor or Outer Banks Estate, or
    – Pineapple Beach House Manor or Pineapple Beach House Estate.

The “tag line “an active senior’s residence” can cover a myriad of antics and activities that could and mostly did happen in my Mom’s place — and even blind, she was right in the middle of all of the fun!!

I look forward to your new book — May the Senior Games Comence
