My mother and I went to “Wine & Canvas” last night, which is where you drink and learn to paint. I’m already really good at the first thing, but I’m not much of a painter, so I figured I could use a class. Our assigned project for the evening was a pair of flip flops on a beach:
But after I painted my water and sand and had a vodka and soda (splash of cranberry) …things went a bit off the rails…
What’s is that in the water you ask? It’s a giant octopus, naturally…
Obviously, you can’t have a giant octopus and a shark with giant foreground flip flops? So… I decided the juxtaposition of a man-eating shark (it’s almost Shark Week, right?) and a demon-eyed kraken would go well with my fluffy dog, Gordon.
My finished painting:
One of the ladies in the class liked it so much, I turned around to find someone had appeared on her flip flop painting…
Next month’s assignment is “Your Pet” so I guess I’ll paint flip flops!

LOL, Amy! Sounds like a fun class. If I told a friend of mine I was taking a class like that, he’d say “Do you still drink?” (It’s an inside joke about some guy at work who asked me that when I saw him in the hall because at one time, I told him I drink a glass of wine on Friday night.
Ha! That’s so funny. I’m surprised you could see straight to write this comment! 🙂
Love it!
I went to one of these a couple weeks ago with a friend. When I told my husband about it, he gave me a weird look and asked if I could paint.
We painted an anchor with an octopus and a jellyfish. When I brought him home, he exclaimed “That’s not as horrible as I expected!” Thanks, dear….
Ooh, they actually gave you an octopus to draw! Much better than flip flops!
That is hilarious!! Love the giant octopus!
