Michelle Obama Overexposed

Is Michelle Obama the ‘Madonna’ of First Ladies?

The USA Today had an article asking of Michelle Obama was “overexposed.”   Syndicated columnist Kathleen Parker was quoted calling Michelle Obama “the Madonna of First Ladies.”  As far as I know Michelle Obama doesn’t eat 20 year old Latino boys for lunch, but I get what she’s saying. I can’t remember the last time a first lady read results on the Oscars.

I dunno. I think Michelle Obama is fun. Normally first ladies are too stiff, rarely seen, or taking themselves way to seriously.  But in all fairness, I did warn her about her new outfit…

Ha. I’m very much NOT into politics–or grammatical correctness, evidently–but I love her. I think she would be a fun mom and friend and she’s not some old stiff who seems completely out of touch with reality. Again, I’m not into the whole political/celeb scene, but as far as first ladies go, we could do much worse. Hell, we have done much worse…

Personally, I dig her. She doesn’t take herself seriously, and she’s shattered that ugly “angry black woman” label that was attached to her in 2008. But dancing with Jimmy Fallon and announcing Best Picture? hmmm, yeah, that’s a little much. I love what she does with kids exercise and education. Maybe she just needs a better publicist.

I like her too, but I tend to agree that there’s way too much focus on the minutiae around her, like the blitz around her bangs. However, I wonder how much of that is fueled by the media and the internet, not Obama herself.

I didn’t realize it either, but apparently Laura Bush was in a taped segment for the Academy Awards in 2002. President Reagan did a taped appearance while he was in office in ’81, and President Roosevelt spoke at the Oscars by way of radio in 1941. I think at this point no matter what Michelle does, there are people out there who will be quick to criticize her for it.

Interesting, I did not know about Laura Bush! Good, I can use that when my conservative parents start ranting about what an attention whore Michelle is. I need a parental control for Fox news on their tv.

I think she is a class act, especially because she is a woman of accomplishment in her own right and not just the “little woman” standing by Obama’s side, dominated by his status. I did do a double take when she appeared at the Oscars, but then I thought, why not? It’s a big deal here in America, so why shouldn’t she be a part of it, being somewhat of a big deal herself. And if anyone but Madonna could pull off that look, Michelle could!

The way I look at it is when you have the power and CAN do it, then do it! Where in the First Lady Rulebook does it say: No presenting at the Academy Awards and No wearing bangs?

God, I’d make a crappy First Lady.

Agreed. I would have WAY too much fun as first lady, too. Would it be too much to put my face up on Rushmore, just to break up the sausage fest?

I think it’s a fair balance of Doing Good for the Country and Having Fun Herself. Also more First Ladies should dance on the late night comedy circuit.
