It’s that time again, when I ask YOU to name something or someone in my upcoming novel!
This time, it’s my paranormal romance/comedy/thriller Kilty Conscience, the sequel to Kilty as Charged, the cover of which you voted on, and the lead character of which you named in another, earlier contest.
Really, I hardly do any work at all around here.
Here’s the reveal of the official cover. Nice, huh?
So I’m wrapping up writing it now… it should be out by the end of April, but I don’t like the name I gave my lead bad(?) guy.
So, I need a bad guy first name. And I don’t mean “Spike” or “Death Eagle” just a real name. I will tell you, his last name is probably Phoenix. Or maybe it isn’t. But it might be. So maybe “Phineas” would be goofy. No one is scared of Phineas Pheonix.
This fellow is troubled. A little older. Doesn’t need to be sexy. I just want something that sounds cool because he’ll be around for a while. Or not. But maybe.

Joe Riley, Jr., my soulmate past away January 1999. I was left to raise 3 daughters ages 12 1/2 and 26 years old. Our oldest was married. I met my honey in October 1975. We were married July 1976. I don’t want another man in my life except for son in laws or grandson. He was a wonderful husband and daddy to his girls.
Hayden Brody – sounds normal, but a cruel man may lurk beneath!

How bout Abram?
How about Scottie ??????
My selection for a name would be Risen as it would be a play on your last name if you choose Phoenix. Hope I lucky.
By the look of the cover his name should be Angus
Liam Phoenix? I think that’s a good moniker for a bad guy.
TEÀRLACH: Scottish Gaelic form of Irish Gaelic Toirdhealbhach, meaning “instigator.” Or maybe Ross?
Malcolm Phoenix. I like that.
Manchester? or, Aloysius could be ironic. I don’t think of that as a strong name but I do think of it as an old name.
Arthair Pheonix older name Gaelic for Arthur I believe
A strong name is needed to go with a surname like Phoenix. Perhaps Richard. We could have some fun with that….or perhaps he hasn’t a first name. He only goes by Phoenis because he’s embarrassed by his given name….like Homer or Wilbur….????
How about justin
I think Jonah Phoenix in honor of my young cousin who passed just before his 19th birthday.

I like Alastair or Malcolm Phoenix. Both sound like strong masculine characters.
Roger, after Roger Mortimer and a despicable ex boss.
My number 1 is Alastair or can be spelt Alasdair. It is a Scottish name and it reminds me of that one bad guy on Days of our Lives named Alastair. My second is Nathair because it means snake in Gaelic and that in itself already sets a tone of his character if his name means something sinisterlike.
I think Roman Toucan is a great name
Jax or Colt
I like Iron Phoenix sounds good.
Niall MacGregor / MacGregor was Rob Roy’s clan.
Dudley Phoenix sounds good to me.
How about Brenton? It means fire, so may pair well with the Phoenix 🙂

Eoghan (pronounced oh-an) Phoenix
How about Brick? Brick Phoenix sounds good 🙂
Sounds like it wouldn’t fly very far… 🙂
A bit stolen from Ivanhoe book, but my first 3 villain-name I will always remember:
Bruno de Bois-Guilbert
– his name was Brian, but “de Bois-Guilbert” always sounded a bit like “de Bois Guilt-ber”.
Sir Hugo De Bracy
– I always loved the mean sound of “Sir Hugo de Baskerville” at Prologue in the Holmes Story, “Sir Hugo” just must be mean! Same for “Maurice de Bracy”, because “de Bracy” sound a lot like “brace-brace” on an airplain.
Roman Malvoisin
– allready includes the mad mined in the last name “male” meaning in Frensh “mad” or “sick” – “voi” to see and “sin” voila a perfect villain by name, so he must be a “Roman” as a first name.
Ciaran ( dark, shadowy)
Hamish
Finlay
Gregor
Simon Phoenix
Blake
Malandro (Portuguese origin: mugger; nowadays: rip-off artist, con-man)
Daegus like dangerous
If you are leaning towards Ian, then how about spelling it the Gaelic way, Iain. Much more impressive that way.
Roberto Phoenix sounds scarey to me. I think I have forgotten how to spell. Good luck and good night.
Oh Fiona, your personal name is in the book for sure…You’re a complex character, lady! 🙂
One of my daughter’s is a Fiona. She is a handful! That girl is going to rule the world one day:)
makena phoenix sounds like a good villains name
I really like the name Phoenix Vargo for your new villain.
Ian or lain
Cameron Campbell. Cameron is Gaelic for crooked nose and Campbell Is Gaelic for crooked mouth. You could use the name meanings in his description.
Finley Phoenix sounds nice together… and it’s a Scottish name.
Torin Phoenix … Ramsey Phoenix, Finlay Phoenix, Jakson Phoenix.
All Scottish names.
Phineas is my Chihuahuas name ☺
Torin sounds like a Scottish bad boy name, and it reminds be of
torrid, lol
People in the book could call him Tor at times for short, like Thor ☺
Or you might name him Thor ?
There’s also Toran.
Price Phoenix has a nice ring to it.
Birk Phoenix, Gregor, Grant, Sinclair, Thane, Torrence, Trahern, all Scottish ☺
Coming up with names is always hard. Every time I rescue a dog we use baby name books to choose their names, lol
I say Wade Phoenix would be good. Of course I’m partial to the name Wade, since that’s my son’s name.?
Kyle
Finn
Sam(my)
Branwell
Charlie
How about Tonn Phoenix or Heathlan Phoenix?
Blake Phoenix – Heath Phoenix – Caspian Phoenix
Vince, Vincent, Don, Wilson, Will, Jeffrey, Eli, Jasper, Scott, Thom, Stephen, Maurice, Reece…

Lynn
Jasper Crunkleton
Errol Phoenix (if your sticking with Phoenix)
Ian James, I have always loved those names.
Aamon or Edgar
Bradley Lennard Phoenix…. In honor of my not-so-honorable ex-husband
How about Abraham? Can seem old fashioned/good for an older guy, but also a bit serious and intimidating. Plus it seems good/honorable, which could make it a fun choice for a bad guy. And other characters could make fun of him by calling him “Honest Abe” in a snarky way.
Drogo
Eben
Dirk
Brogan
Ogden
Rube
Marion (John Wayne )
Shirley (Big Daddy Surname Crabtree a British wrestler when I was young)
Last few are enough to turn anyone evil

Konnor Killian to go along with the Kilty

Rafe Phoenix is a good villain name
Damien Trinity Phoenix AKA the “Phoenix Fire”! ??????
Archibald means bold and Beiste means beast. So Archibald Beiste.
Fin Phoenix
Short, sharp and multinational
Bad guy name…Damon, Damion, Darin…hmmm. All sound pretty good with Phoenix.
The only correct name is Antonio
I think Garth would be a good rugged name for your villain xx
How about Dallas Phoenix or Keevan (Kegan) Phoenix.
Chandler should go well with Phoenix, if after all these great ideas you still want to keep it.
Devon Blackwater , villain of all times . Thanks and much luck .
My suggestion with the Duke of Earl if Gene (or Jean) Williams
Perfect inside joke. Gene Chandler sanf the song written by Bernice Williams!
My very first thought was Dexter (Dex for short). But I’d love if you used either Connor or Judd, my youngest son’s first and middle names.
How about Lael? Pronounced like Gail or mail but with a L. I just looked it up and Lael means God! Lael Phoenix, Lael Lauften?
As soon as you said Phineas I thought Fergus or Angus since Fergus or Ferguson Phoenix may work with that. Phelan maybe too, Phelan Augustus Phoenix sort of like named for Caesar Augustus or Phelan Fergus Phoenix if it had been a neat name then Kalin, Kalen or Kellen could have worked. I named my niece Kailyn from the vintner named Kalin, in a book I fell in love with his name and suggested an alternate spelling of Kaitlyn instead she wanted to name her. Good luck!
I named my Chihuahua Phineas Finn after the same titled book by Anthony Trollop ☺
I can’t stop thinking about this cool competition! How about Brakkyn Phoenix?
Conchobhar (konk o bar) galic for “lover of hounds” and the root of the name Connor. It’s my dogs name: a Czechoslovakian vlcak, that came from a breeder in Brazil, and she gave her C litter all Galic names. Just crazy enough that we kept it.
I have five cousins whose names would be perfect:
Sterling Gray (my grandfather, uncle and cousin’s first and middle names
Jonathan
Patrick
Alexander Richard
Ian (or Iain)
Or Robert (another uncle)
Or Richard Gerry (my late father’s first and middle names)
Or Oliver Harcourt (great uncle’s first/middle)
All of these men were/are strong, courageous, big-hearted, can-do-anything-that-needs-doing, resourceful and handsome-as-heck (and most importantly have strong Scottish genes!
Sylvester It’s an older name, without an overt evilness, yet has a sibilant hiss to it.
Can you name him after my ex-husband and not tell anyone that I suggested it? I suppose not. He has supernatural powers because he’s psychotic so he’d know I came up with the name.
Love,
Janie Junebug
Killain, Tor, Devlin
Prescott or Russian (Rush)
Killian Sinclair is a good villain name to me.
How about Cash, Tango Maxam, Maxwell or maybe even Drake.
How about Seth, Blake or Lucas.
I have a couple of suggestions. Cormac Phoenix. I realize that Cormac is predominantly and Irish name, but he can always be named after a friend or old family member.
CYNBEL Ancient Celtic
Derived from Welsh cyn “chief” and bel “war”. This also works with Phoenix and has the added benefit of it’s meaning. You can also shorten it to Cyn (Sin).
Dunham Phoenix. Dunham means dark man.
Kembell (or Kemble) Phoenix. Kembell means warrior chief.
Kear Phoenix meaning Father’s dark child.
Kester Phoenix (-Scottish form of Christopher). meaning Bearing Christ.
Varn and Vaughn came to mind first.
